Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the be cool campaign?
RE Sources’ be cool campaign is a program that challenges individuals in Whatcom County to make lifestyle changes and personally combat climate change. be cool combines various outreach approaches to raise community awareness about this global problem. be cool participants will receive information about climate change via email, be connected with local businesses and organizations that can help them take action, pledge to make lifestyle changes, then regularly receive email prompts for further action.
What are the core values driving the be cool campaign?
Optimism: We consider global climate change to be not a death sentence but a problem to be solved through information and collective action. be cool invites and challenges Whatcom County residents to be part of the solution.
Adaptability: be cool is open ended by design and will evolve to meet new opportunities, new partners, and new ideas.
Courage: In our consumer-oriented culture, the act of questioning habits and assumptions about consumption is inherently controversial. In light of this, we've resolved to be steadfast, honest and science-based in dialoguing about these issues to ourselves and others.

You’re awesome! Thanks! You are setting an important example for friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers. Please consider deepening your engagement by encouraging others to take the steps you've taken or by asking the groups you are affiliated with to join the campaign. Share you stories in the be cool blog.
How did you choose which actions to recommend?
We chose the actions that are the most achievable and have the most potential for making change. In some instances, we chose to include actions even though their direct impacts are difficult to quantify in terms of greenhouse gas reductions. While the campaign centers on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and curbing the problems associated with climate change, all actions will also lead to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable society.
